As sports enthusiasts, we would like to introduce you to the exploits of Francis Joyon and Thomas Coville.
Sailing is in the spotlight at the beginning of the season: two world records in one week! After the team race The Bridge, Francis Joyon and Thomas Coville decided to return to France solo, without a crew.
Francis Joyon set off with little preparation and no weather routing, arriving early in the morning of July 12. He linked New York and La Trinité-sur-Mer (Morbihan) in 5 days, 2 hours and 7 minutes. Already the world record holder, he beat it by 49 minutes despite a malfunction in the automatic pilots, forcing him to hold the helm continuously for the last 24 hours.
His rival, Thomas Coville, had officially announced his intention to set sail and beat the world record, which was held by Joyon. He set off on Tuesday 11th July, becoming the first man to cross the Atlantic in less than 5 days. He linked New York and Trinité-sur-mer in 4 days, 11 hours and 10 minutes. Beating Joyon's record by 15 hours and 45 minutes, Thomas Coville has now achieved his 17th record.ème solo record.
For the two rivals, the race for world records does not seem to be over and promises more great shows!
