Motivation is far from the only thing condition required to be able to participate. To be a competitor, you must have, in the last two years completed at least three 160km races or more. Also, you must demonstrate your ability to get used to the heat.
In order to meet these criteria, the athletes use their imagination. To cope with the extreme heat, two-time finalist Ferg Hawke trained to run in a 54-degree solarium.
Each year, it is on average 100 people representative 20 countries who are embarking on the Badwater Ultramarthon adventure. The women are present, even if they are a minority, they still represent 30% of runners.
You are probably wondering what the prize is for this challenge? The answer in 2 words: a medal and a belt buckle (if you finish the race in 48 hours!).
